To promote lifelong learning and academic success, guided by Anishinaabe world views
Welcome to the Wikwemikong Board of Education. Our vision is “to promote lifelong learning and academic success guided by Anishinabe world views.

As the oldest education system in Northern Ontario, and with a budget of approximately $13 million dollars a year, we realize this vision by providing programs for everyone in our community – daycare in the Hub, K – 12 in our three schools, including one of the only on-reserve high schools in Ontario, and adult education enabling our community to upgrade and engage in learning for life. All of our programs incorporate elements of Anishinabe world views, so our students develop a sense of place and purpose.

Our successes include:
- the use of current information technology, and access to the resources of the internet
- a partnership with McMaster University’s medical school in the ‘Come Explore Medicine’ program
- a career fair for all of our students
- sporting success with our volleyball and basketball teams winning the Northern Ontario Secondary Schools Association (NOSSA) trophies
- competing successfully in science competitions in Southern Ontario
- participated in business competitions across Canada
- the creation of a Curriculum and Resource program which provides Anishinabe curriculum materials to not only our schools, but First Nations schools across Ontario
- our First Nations Student Success and Structural Readiness Programs
- our post secondary counselling unit
- support for band members attending community colleges and universities
Contact North, enabling our community members to study what they want, when they want
- A dedicated staff of professional teachers, qualified as members of the Ontario College of Teachers
- Professional development for our staff, including our provincially recognized education conference, held every four years

Our education system has seen many other successes! Our post-secondary graduates have returned home as doctors, dentists, lawyers, nurses, police officers, ambulance attendants, teachers, soldiers, electricians, plumbers, carpenters and the list goes on. This can be attributed to the partnership between WBE, parents, community and the leadership of WUIR.   We also credit our ongoing success to the First Nations Student Success Program (FNSSP) at the elementary level. This program provides support in literacy, numeracy, ICT, student retention, and efficient use of student data. . Professional Development continues through collaborative inquiry and the encouragement of additional qualifications courses for all teachers.

In closing, though we are a small northern education authority, we are a mecca for educational activity. We have produced graduates that have surpassed our dreams and we will continue to do so through academics, sports, culture and language.   We are leaders and innovators in capacity development and using technology and our resource base to keep moving forward.

We welcome guests to visit and parents/ guardians to meet with teachers.
