Message from the Principal
Aanii Wiikwemkoong Anishinaabek,
I hope everyone had a restful and enjoyable summer break. My name is Mr. Craig Cress, and I am truly honored and excited to introduce myself as the new Principal of the Wiikwemkoong Junior School (WJS). As I step into this role, I am filled with excitement and anticipation for the incredible journey ahead.
First, I want to express my deep respect for the rich cultural heritage and history of Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory (WUT) that our school serves. I promise to continue to accept an environment of mutual understanding, appreciation, and respect for our diverse backgrounds, experiences, and traditions.
I have spent the last few years teaching at Lakeview School in Mchigeeng. During this time, I acquired a wealth of knowledge and a passion for creating meaningful learning experiences and spaces for our students and staff. Education goes beyond textbooks, lesson plans, and the classroom; it empowers young minds, instills curiosity, and promotes a lifelong love for learning. Together, as a dedicated team of educators, parents, and community members, we can provide our students with the tools they need to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally guided by Anishinaabe world views.
I look forward to collaborating with the outstanding staff at WJS and throughout the Wiikwemkoong Board of Education. Your dedication to your students over the years is admirable, and I am excited to work alongside each of you. This school year, I challenge us to explore new and innovative ways to engage our students, ensuring their educational journey is fun and meaningful.
This upcoming school year promises to be one of growth and achievement. I am excited to get to know the students and their families, to hear their stories, and to learn from their experiences. Together, we will create an encouraging and stimulating environment where every student can thrive.
In my former role as a teacher, I was a firm believer in open communication and collaboration. I plan on continuing this practice. So, I encourage parents, guardians, and community members to contact me with their ideas, concerns, and suggestions. Your involvement is vital to our shared goal of providing the best possible education for our students.
In closing, let us embark on this educational journey with an open heart, a curious mind, and a determination to make a positive impact in the lives of our students. I am truly honored to serve as the Principal of WJS and to be a part of this fantastic community.
Miigwech, thank you for your warm welcome, and I look forward to the exciting year of learning ahead.
Miigwech,
Craig Cress
